The short answer

Warren Township is moving most municipal offices to temporary space at 3 Mountainview Road, Warren, NJ 07059, 1st Floor, Suites 100 and 102, in three phases. Engineering, Fire, Fire Prevention, Human Resources, Land Use, the Township Clerk and the Tax Assessor move March 18. The Administrator, Finance, Health, Purchasing, Recreation, Sewer, Tax Collector and Zoning move March 23. Construction moves March 24. Municipal Court and Police remain at 44 Mountain Boulevard, Public Works remains at 1 Bardy Road, and mail continues to go to 46 Mountain Boulevard.

The township posted the relocation schedule on March 16. It is the direct consequence of the sprinkler pipe burst at Town Hall on February 8, 2026, and it is the first firm answer residents have had about where to physically go for a permit, a tax question or a marriage license.

The temporary address

3 Mountainview Road, Warren, NJ 07059, 1st Floor, Suites 100 and 102.

That is inside Warren Township, which matters if you are searching a map and landing on similarly named roads elsewhere in the county. Two suites on one floor of one building are absorbing fifteen departments.

Move date Departments
Wednesday, March 18 Engineering, Fire Department and Fire Prevention, Human Resources, Land Use, Township Clerk, Tax Assessor
Monday, March 23 Township Administrator, Finance, Health Department, Purchasing, Recreation, Sewer, Tax Collector, Zoning
Tuesday, March 24 Construction Department

The phasing is worth reading carefully rather than skimming. The Tax Assessor moves on the 18th and the Tax Collector moves on the 23rd. Those are different offices doing different jobs, and for five days in March they are in different stages of being packed. Land Use moves on the 18th, Zoning on the 23rd, and Construction on the 24th, which means anyone working a permit through all three touches all three phases.

Who is not moving

  • Municipal Court: Municipal Complex, 44 Mountain Boulevard
  • Police: Municipal Complex, 44 Mountain Boulevard
  • Public Works: 1 Bardy Road

Court dates and police business are unaffected by the move. If you have a summons or a court appearance, the address on the notice still applies.

Mail still goes to 46 Mountain Boulevard

This is the item most likely to cause a real problem. The township directs mail to continue going to 46 Mountain Boulevard. Do not readdress a tax payment, a permit application or a certified letter to 3 Mountainview Road because you read that the offices moved. The staff moved. The mailing address did not.

If you are mid transaction

Anything with a deadline attached, a permit expiration, a tax due date, a closing that needs a certificate of occupancy, deserves a phone call to confirm where the file physically is during the week of March 18 to March 24. A file in a box is still a file, but it is not one anyone can pull on demand.

What caused this, and who might pay for it

The February 8 sprinkler pipe burst is the reason. At the March 12 Township Committee meeting, Committeeman McCarey reported that the insurance carrier's subrogation team had toured Town Hall and was actively investigating potential claims against third parties related to the flooding.

Subrogation is the carrier's process of recovering what it pays out from whoever it believes is legally responsible. That the carrier put a team on site and is looking at third parties tells you the cause is being treated as something other than pure bad luck. It does not tell you who, or whether a claim will be brought. Nothing in the public record I have names a target.

McCarey also reported that planned courtroom audio visual upgrades are on hold pending the staff relocation. That is a small item, but it is a useful signal of how much of the township's project calendar is now sequenced behind this move.

How long

The repair estimate on the record as of March 12 was approximately six to twelve months. That is a wide band, and it was given as an estimate rather than a schedule. Six months from February 8 is early August. Twelve months is early February 2027.

The honest read is that the township does not yet know, and a range that wide usually means the scope of damage is still being assessed. Treat 3 Mountainview Road as the working address for the rest of 2026 and be pleasantly surprised if it is shorter.

What I could not verify

The March 16 notice covers locations and dates. I have not verified whether department phone numbers, email addresses or public counter hours change with the move, and I am not going to assume they carry over. If you need a specific department at a specific hour, confirm before you drive.

I also have no information on where evening public meetings will be held during the relocation. The March 12 meeting predates the move, and the notice addresses office space rather than meeting space.

The practical version

If your business is with Engineering, Fire Prevention, Land Use, the Clerk or the Assessor, go to 3 Mountainview Road on or after March 18. If it is with Finance, Health, Recreation, Sewer, the Tax Collector or Zoning, go on or after March 23. Construction is March 24. Court and police are unchanged at 44 Mountain Boulevard. Public Works is unchanged at 1 Bardy Road. Mail goes to 46 Mountain Boulevard regardless.
